One of the more frequent questions we get from light tower operators involves the light tower light bulbs’ life expectancy. Most units nowadays feature metal halide bulbs, which are extremely energy-efficient, saving you time and money. You can expect these bulbs to perform up to the manufacturer’s standards and suggested life expectancies when used under “normal” conditions:
1,000-watt metal halide bulbs – 10,000 hours
1,250-watt metal halide bulbs – 7,000 hours
Whether you intend to purchase or rent a portable light tower, you should follow a few guidelines. To get the most out of every halide light bulb, make sure you purchase OEM bulbs from your specific light tower’s manufacturer. Store them in a clean environment and handle them with gloves as the natural oil from our hands can cause them to burn at higher temperatures, thus decreasing life expectancy.
Most manufacturers are now also offering LED light bulbs.
